INDIVIDUAL LABS

Individual Functional Labs

Functional lab tests are invaluable for uncovering what’s really going on. The information and insight gained from these tests will give you a clear picture and greater understanding of what is going on with you. Once you can see the territory, it’s much easier to chart your course to health! When you understand how your body works and why it responds to certain things, you are empowered and able to take control of your health and your life!

The main lab tests that we use are:

  • HTMA- Hair Tissue Mineral Analysis: a hair sample is used to test for 21 nutritive and toxic minerals. This test is used to determine your unique blueprint of mineral imbalances and toxic load. It is an excellent assessment to help you understand your body’s mineral and nutritional needs.
  • BH205-Adrenal Stress Profile: this profile is used to evaluate the adrenal glands and hormonal balance.  The collection is made of 4 salivary samples at specific times of the day to reveal cortisol rhythm and hormonal balance including  DHEA, estradiol, estriol, progesterone, testosterone, and melatonin.

  • BH101-Metabolic Assessment Profile: checks protein breakdown, digestion capabilities, lipid peroxidation/free radical damage in the body, and liver function.

  • BH304-Mucosal Barrier Function: single salivary test to assess Secretory IgA levels. Checks intestinal permeability or “leaky gut”. This test is used to evaluate your gut function by identifying malabsorption and anti-body response to candida yeast, aerobic bacteria, anaerobic bacteria, and dietary proteins.

  • BH401H-Pathogen Screen with H. pylori: a comprehensive test using a stool culture to check for parasites, bacterial overgrowth, and fungi, including a check for H. Pylori.

The following additional Functional Lab Tests can be discussed in more detail if needed:

Dried Urine Test for Comprehensive Hormones
The DUTCH is a more complete panel that provides insight into how hormones are processed in the body.  This test evaluates both sex hormones and stress hormones giving excellent details about hormone health.  Chronic adrenal stress resulting in abnormal cortisol (“the stress hormone”) can negatively influence energy, the immune system, muscle and joint function, sleep quality; liver, pancreas and thyroid function. The test also provides information about Androgen metabolites (testosterone, DHT, DHEA), progesterone metabolites, and the three estrogens and their metabolites.  An additional maker for the “sleep hormone” melatonin, provides clues about sleep disruption and even gives insight into gut function too.

Organic Acids Test
The OAT provides insight into the body’s cellular metabolic processes. Organic acids are metabolic intermediates that are produced in pathways of central energy production, detoxification, neurotransmitter breakdown, or intestinal microbial activity. Marked accumulation of specific organic acids detected in urine often signals a metabolic inhibition or block. The metabolic block may be due to a nutrient deficiency, an inherited enzyme deficit, toxic build-up or drug effect. Several of the biomarkers are markers of intestinal bacterial or yeast overgrowth.
